I’ve been waiting patiently for the official answer to refresh, but it seems we have another glitch.
Yes, so it seems! We probably won’t see sn official answer until tomorrow. But we plow on regardless…
I couldn’t pair Lizard; perhaps someone else will have better luck. I settled for Durzi Inexorable. What’s so relentless about this particular Indian tailor, I could not say. Their bill collection practices?
whoa thanks for this! I was hoping there was something to pair with INEXORABLE (though I had no idea what Durzi is – google search led me to an NHL player before an Indian tailor). Hoping there’s someone for NEBULIZE(R) too
I found two more after Lizard it’s Diner then Rin I don’t know what to do next though
It just occurred to me that the solver site Sota flagged a while back flags a solution as the NYT official, so I just checked, and, yes indeed, IDOLIZE – EXURBAN is listed there as the official solution today. The other suggested solution, NEBULIZE – EXORDIA, also works (EXORDIA is a PSW, but I had to look it up). But many of the “try also” solutions do not work. Which raises two obvious questions: How does whoever maintains that site know the official solution, if not by checking here, and, if they have some kind of privileged access, why are they not using the same word list?
They’re all in cahoots, DW, to drive us crazy. 😃
Seriously though, I’ve always wondered how this site knows what’s the official, since NYT does not reveal that until the next day. Maybe there’s a back channel of communication somehow.
To your point on the word lists, I agree; I don’t think the solver apps know ahead of time. I’m guessing they’re just cranking it brute force.
I do wish the site admins would explain the process. It’s not like we’d stop participating here if there was more clarity.
Couldn’t possibly agree more.
Idolize exurban- took a shot with exurban!
Inexorable euro odorize
IDOLIZE – EXURBAN 14/2 (I hazard a guess it will be the official solution)
LBF score: 14 (6/12 letters correctly predicted). Time to throw
RZU AIX VEN JOQ at them.
Me too! Pretty sure it’s the official
Also IDOLIZE-EXURBAN, though I have no idea what exurban means. Someone who used to live in the city? Tried to make URBANIZE and INEXORABLE work. Also DUALIZE. I do like Bernie’s lizard!
Hanging out with the ZEBRA and the OXEN.
I discovered today that EBOLA is also not allowed (along with COVID last week). Hmmm.
LB and its handling of proper names has confounded me for awhile.
My ABELIAN is a good example. ABEL was a mathematician, a proper name, so it should be excluded, and it is. However, ABELIAN, an adjective, which is derived from his name, is allowed.
In prior puzzles LB did not accept Eocene, Oligocene, and other geological epochs. I think they should have been included. Over time some proper names transform and become more standardized words in our vocabulary.
Just my 2¢.
🙂
Another IDOLIZE – EXURBAN here.
Birds: NENE, DODO, ANI, ORIOLE, and BULBUL in the singles; LOON in the doubles.
oxazine – endurable
Dioxan-nebulizer
DIOXAN – NEBULIZER here as well. Didn’t know dioxan as a word, but in looking it up I also added ethanediol to my list of new chemistry based words!

And IDOLIZE – EXURBAN again. If not the official choice, at least a popular one.
I’m rooting for DURZI-INEXORABLE as the official. Great words!
I’ll second that (but I’m not betting on it). That was my solution, too.
Couldn’t make BRANZINO(I) nor NEURAXON work, but don’t feel badly ’cause the official solver couldn’t solve in 2 words either.
Oxazine Endurable
