Sides of this Letter Box are:
RTXIOWGQLAUN
The answers are:
QUOTINGGRAWLIX

QUOTING-GRAWLIX
TORQUING-GRAWLIX
ALIQUOTING-GRAWLIX
I cannot – yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do “must” and “cannot” meet? Yet I must – but I cannot!
– Ro-Man, ‘Robot Monster’ (1953)
I thought my solution was going to be bizarre, but the OA it is! QUOTING-GRAWLIX
This puzzle was a pleasant surprise! Never heard of a GRAWLIX before, I got it by playing around with the remaining letters (and in under five minutes!)
Thankfully this wasn’t the next FAUXHAWK KILOTON.
Played around with TORQUING, LIQUORING and AXOLOTL.
Yeah, AXOLOTL-LIQUORING (no W) was as close as I got. Recalling AMPHIBIANS-SNIFTER (Dec 16, 2024) and RALPHING-GECKO (Oct 2, 2024) it seemed like there was a whole theme of alcoholic herptiles!
I got Fauxhawk because I’d heard of it. Grawlix is a completely new one for me. That W is a big problem in this puzzle and I realize pretty quickly it was going to be a word I had never heard of. Took a quick search of words containing W and X to increase my vocabulary by one. So it was a research aided OA for me.
I’m happy to learn new words!
You shouldn’t have to go to the web to solve these puzzles if you have at least a high school education , which is what the NYT target audience is.
I do not agree. Sure, 97% of the puzzles can be solved easily by an average high school student. But the remaining 3% consists of extremely obscure words most of us haven’t even heard of once in our lives. In such situations there is no other option than to go to the web to get the solution.
Oa. Can’t imagine there’s an answer without grawlix.
OA, got there faster than expected.
TORQUING — GRAWLIX
Spent lots of time on AXOLOTL, LUXURIATING, LUXATING, ATARAXIA, before starting with QU words. Remembered GRAWLIX from a crossword puzzle (I never knew that a string of top row keyboard symbols actually had a name until then).
LB would not accept OXALATING.
OA but had no idea what a grawlix was until I looked it up
OA, but I had to look up GRAWLIX.
Got the OA but only after looking for variants of gravlax. Never heard of grawlix before.
Also WRAXLING* GOUT TALAQ*
*in MW — variations of WRESTLING and TALAK, Muslim divorce.
Grawlix is not in my vocabulary so, I ended up with several solutions that left me one letter short of a two-word solution.
New to me too—GRAWLIX…fun word to learn *$#&!
Remembered GRAWLIX after giving up and seeing it here. Looked on the word-check site I usually go to, and none of the ten sources accept it. Neat word to know, though. How do some people get the OA if they had no idea it was even a word until they looked it up later? Not talking about the people who go to multiple sources to begin with.
Quoting – *!#**!! :)))) Did not get this one but like the word!
OA-Love Grawlix!
Well, this was a #@&$! up answer. Never would have gotten it without you guys.

Words like “Grawlix” which I’ve never heard once in my 70 years, are what make me leery of wasting too much time on this particular puzzle. Of course there are many truly obscure words out there but can’t we please use just words that are not so far-fetched and never ever used in a normal conversation? Calling bull#&$%£ !!

As Richie used to say, what a waste of a puzzle. Grawlix is not in the one source I consult(memory) so live and learn. Thought I was going to get it with luxuriating or torquing
Fitting response…..grawlix!!!!
Ironically, just the day before I had been reading about grawlix during a wikipedia wormhole dive… and I still didn’t think of it for this puzzle 🙁
