  1. FAZED—DOWNVOTING
What I thought was happening to me the other day with my LB solutions. 😟
Thanks all for your words of encouragement. I guess I overreacted. I think I have a tendency to do that. 🙂

    1. Navin Johnson, once he got his name in the phonebook… but that doesn’t fit… I’ll keep after it till someone beats me to it.

    2. Radioactive Flower

      (JUST A STRANGER)

The Earth has 8 billion people yet we only know a very neglible few. That’s a lot of strangers and it’s impossible to know them all. When we popped up in the timeline and then dies, they don’t know about that happening.

          1. Then it seems this “ngram viewer” may be faulty or biased from the samples it draws from. As Piper pointed out, it written frequently as the term for 👎
And as the OED notes, it’s been in use for other contexts for centuries.

          2. So it seems ngram viewer only looks at published books, with an emphasis on scientific literature. It also doesn’t include websites, magazines, or newspapers. And it only goes up to 2019. Clearly its results don’t accurately reflect how people use words in the real world, the addition of newer words to the lexicon, nor provide any indication of whether a word is a “real” word or not.

      1. Not sure why you think it’s “not real”…🤔 it appears in the OED and it’s been a word since at least the 1800s.

    1. Why? What’s wrong with DOWNVOTING? It’s a legitimate word. Definitely more legit than CHAPSTICK (which is a brand name)!

  2. Anagram Adventures, allowing for double letters.
Format: (more common : less common)

    ATTENDEE : EDENTATE
    INDIGENT : ENDITING*
    NEGATIVE : AGENTIVE
    AVENGED : VENDAGE*
    EVADING : DEAVING*
    INVADED : VIDENDA*
    WINDING : DWINING*
    INDIGN* : NIDING*

  3. Some minimal Quads (15/4)

    DZO—OFT—TEW*—WAVING
    DZO—OVA—AFT—TEWING*
    VAW—WINGED—DZO—OFT
    VIGA—AWD²—DZO—OFTEN
    VIGA—AWNED—DZO—OFT
    WAVED—DZO—OFT—TING
    WAVING—GED*—DZO—OFT
    WINGED—DZO—OVA—AFT
    ZING—GOWD*—DEVA—AFT

    * PSW
² OK in LB, but not a PSW
Observation: Apparently Letter Boxed and Scrabble do accept some abbreviations (AWD and GED), unless there are other definitions that I’m unaware of. ☕

  4. Nice TI for several solutions, including OA. I didn’t find two words, but I quite like my three (and TI): ZAFTIG GOWNED DIVA. 🙂

  5. Glad I settled for 3w’s, I’d never have got 2nd word. My closest ones: FAZED DOWNTOWN NEGATIVE, and I went with FAWNED DEVOTING GAZE.

  6. Alternate letter grid puzzle: All I did was substitute R for Z in today’s Letter Boxed puzzle.
Can someone guess the OA in this letter grid?

    ANO
    GDV
    IEF
    WRT

        1. AVOIDED – DOWNDRAFT is a great solution for a sailplane pilot, That’s what you do the entire time you’re flying, Too bad about the G

  7. Glad I flew the white flag today. I probably wouldn’t have ever come up with the OA.

But Mark – SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK!!!

I hope the short break was good and you realize the positive difference you make 😉

  8. Today there was only 1 solution, No PSW.

(The first number is a count and the second number is the number of letters used)

    1 – 15 fazed / downvoting

  9. Bernie Horowitz

When I saw Zaftig I thought surely it would be part of the OA, but No. Eventually found the one and only two-word answer. I always feel cheated by a one-off.
