The answers are:
KILOHERTZZODIAC
Got OA, and lemme tell ya I haven’t felt this accomplished doing Letterboxed for a while. one of those answers which hide in plain sight, but well hidden
I took one look at the letter array and thought, “Hoo boy, this is going to be one of those gimmicky one-hit wonders.” They really are tiresome. Anyway, ZODIAC(AL) came quickly; KILOHERTZ took a little longer. (I guess technically it’s a two-hit wonder.)
I just realized that I’m a hypocrite. I said a while back that I wouldn’t comment on gimmicky one-hit wonders. But as I typed my original post, CREAKY BRAIN posted another solution! A brilliant one too. I have never heard of RHODIZITE. Too bad it’s not playable in Scrabble; I could see that coming in handy.
Was equally pleased to find anything at all! Didn’t even see Zodiac which is much more impressive!
KILOHERTZ – ZODIAC
When your signs vibe.
Clacker Rhodizite
!
That’s a real wow! You got something with Clacker 😉
Oa. I don’t think this is the only answer. Lizardlike not one word I suppose but -izier and -like seemed promising. Also liked chokehold and hotcake.
OA.
amused to see cakehole is an accepted word.
14/2.DRACK KILOHERTZ
Same, took a while tho.
(got bogged down with CHOKEHOLD, CRACKHEAD, CHILDLIKE, CHILDCARE, CHORIZO, HEARTLIKE, ZODIACAL, CRAZIER, DITZIER)
I did too!
Same here!
In this case, not at all surprised that the solution I found was the OA. Really cool to see that there are other solutions, too. I toyed around for a minute or so with the -LIKE affix in an attempt to find a second two-word pathway through the box.
KILOHERTZ—ZODIAC

* – ZODIAC. Got only 1/2 of the OA.
Looking through the litterboxed, intuitively, I decided to solve it by parts. There is no way you can fit DZCHK into one word. Especially KZ, ican’t think of a word with KZ.
One part is to look for Z/D word then C/H/K word.
I bet on LIZARD and ZODIAC.
C/H/K are easier but lead to nothing.
OMG, The OA has KZ. Who would have thought Z as the linker.
Spent some time but not too long.
Yes, Z as the linking letter is rare. I can’t recall seeing it previously.
early find and early quit: drack and kilohertz
DRACK – KILOHERTZ here too. Was really stumped with the Z. Found TCHOCHKE, which just the letters to spell LIZARD, but no connection (then I found HOTCAKE, which was even more efficient than TCHOCHKE, but still not helpful).
Then I found HERTZ, and lamented the lack of MEGA or GIGA, and tried KILO on a whim. Then scrambled for any combination to finish it off! Sad I missed ZODIAC, but I’ll take the win.
I, miss zodiacal,

Try again,
HINT: What makes it random is that the letters shown are randomly selected. The letters shown are in the exact position.
Ok, so are you saying, for example, that S cannot be the third letter, but that the solution contains S elsewhere?
If not, I doubt I’ll get it.
Mark,

MADAM MMVC!
BRILLIANT! YOU GOT IT!

Thank you for the word play, looking forward to more!

Saw zodiac and zodiacal but not kilohertz and my time is up!
Same as Margaret. Best I eke out was ZODIAC-CHORTLE-EKE. Disappointed CHORIZO didn’t work.
Zodiac Chlorite with an orphan K and Chokehold Ditzier with an orphan A is as close as I got.
A great OA today and disapointed in myself. Of course Lazier, Crazier, and Ritzier (shame) went nowhere.
Zodiacal looked so promising!
OA
Nyet again today. But figuring how to use the Z was interesting: Chorizo, Zilch, Crozier, and so on 😊
Good job, all who solved it!
After yesterday’s debacle, I was pleased to find anything at all, and the OA finally appeared (but only after I grudgingly abandoned Lizardlike).
