Glops Sanctorum 14/2
My college prep came in handy on sanctorum. Glops was something I tried to make use of the other words.
Tried to make orangutans or mustangs work. No I am not an animal enthusiast. We have one already- bird is an animal right?

Official, finally, after a prolonged time trying to get SCROTUM to work ( yes, its accepted)
My first solution was OUTCAMP – PROLONGS, but, as I do, I checked to see whether OUTCAMP is a playable Scrabble word, and it is not, so I disqualified myself on that one and settled for the official.
Good birds today! LONGSPUR and TOUCAN are new ones; CARACARA and MOTMOT reappear.
The Thick-billed Longspur, by the way, was until recently called McCown’s Longspur, named after John Porter McCown, a Confederate general who collected the first specimen. He is now cancelled. There is a general move afoot in the birding community to do away with eponymous names because so many prominent ornithologists were awful people. I will be curious to see how far this goes. You may have read that the Audobon society recently voted not to change its name despite the fact that John James Audubon was an enthusiastic slaveholder. Three birds bear his name. There is a related move to decolonize ornithology by embracing indigenous names for birds; perhaps not surprisingly most birds have European-origin names, as ornithological taxonomy was basically a European activity and much of it took place during colonial times. This move works perfectly well for endemic species in some places, but as many birds migrate or have ranges that cross linguistic boundaries even if they do not migrate, they have multiple “original” names, so picking one would be a political choice. There are those, of course, who think we should just leave things be. Aren’t culture wars fun?? For the record, I support doing away with eponymous names because they are not at all descriptive. I think we should call birds by names that help us identify them, as this lowers the barriers to entry.
I found TOUCAN as well, by accident, just following my nose . . .
I’m so tempted to pick up the baton on that discussion about culture wars, but I know we have to tread with extreme caution around these issues. All I will say is that I deem DW’s approach to be extremely balanced & reasonable.
I’ll just limit myself to a much more prosaic & innocuous remark about the spelling TUCAN which has, sadly, been rejected by the LB word list -despite it being even more consistent with its Latin word of origin.
As for OUTCAMP, it just felt a bit like getting my own back on them, since CAMPOUT was disallowed.
I tried Campout too. As a former Girl Scout leader, it seems a lot more acceptable than Outcamp, which means. . .what? You have a better tent? You stayed longer? You’re a better survivalist? Still uncertain.
Right?? 😂
Perhaps Outcamp is a location rather than an action?
