  1. (Sorry for the repost– I had missed the ostriches squeal, and wanted to include them.)

    words from October 6 & 7
    THE EQUATORIAL ICEHOUSE

    As petroleum treacle on a coral shoal
    Makes a lacquer quilt for a sea grown old,
    Aphrodisiac for a curse grown bold;

    As paranoid scorn fills a Pharaoh’s eye,
    Come shouts and calques, and lie after lie,
    As the scorpions hiss, and the condors cry.

    Theatrical words, though once inspired,
    Now as sharpened shrapnel, ill-acquired,
    Trash precious rights, all but expired.

    Adolescence shadowed, void of trust,
    Clichés of human greed and lust,
    Condoned and treacherous, no more just.

    An ostrich squeal, stoic neck stretched high,
    A cacophonous choir, a fatal sigh,
    A rhetorical echo: “The end is nigh.”

    But look past the traitor’s evil leer;
    See the docile seals, the sequoias’ fear;
    Look close. (It’s real, the crocodile’s tear.)

    So before condolence to those living still,
    Take a cathartic pause from the stormy Hill;
    Write a codicil to the weather’s will.

    A Socratic pause beneath a quarter moon,
    Where on an Easter Island wind-swept dune
    Turtles triangulate an orthic rune.

    And polar angels build an elegy,
    An equatorial chapel, floating free–
    Icehouse of hope on the warming sea.

    1. Missed this yesterday, so glad to find it twice!
      I truly enjoy how you reshape the found words into something so much more. It is a pleasure every time. Thank you!!

    2. Chilling, Jill. These are trying times indeed.
      McCarthy DOES look like an ostrich, doesn’t he… Never noticed before, thanks for pointing it out!

  2. Found the OA instantly and called it good. Surprised by the number and quality of alternatives already reported! I’ll check back in for more.

  3. OA. Started with Privatize(s) and searched forever for a pair. Spent time on SPRITZES (until realizing it was just a less efficient PRIVATIZES again 🤦‍♂️) as well as TOPAZ(ES), EVAPORATORS, and VIBRATORS, so happy to see you all found pairs for some of them.

    When I went back to PRIVATIZES I was just plugging in the leftovers with trial and error, and was at first surprised when BISHOP worked, because I was reading it as BI-SHOP in my mind! 🤣 Took a second for it to click and then realized it must be the OA.

    All’s well that ends, I suppose. 😉
