    1. Another OA. It all hangs on that stinky J. I hate J but see Sam loves it.

Found STRATEGY, then MAJESTY. Had aleady wondered about PILGRIM so the remaining letters fell easily into place.

      1. OA pretty quickly. Pilgrimage jumped out after a few minutes. Couldn’t pair that, but saw MAJESTY soon thereafter and just had to delete the AGE, and was done for the day.

    1. OA Pilgrim Majesty, just in time for Thanksgiving. A holiday-themed one-off?
On a vaguely – related note, we solved Wordle in One today, which frankly ruined the whole game. My partner and I compete at Wordle, starting each day’s game with a word we jointly select from the words in that day‘s Connections game. Weirdly, the Lords of Wordle apparently did the same thing today.

      1. I also solved in one try but not today. It was my forever first word: BEAUT. That really made my day. I get how not being able to play the way you regularly play would ruin the experience.

        1. I often use CRANE as my opening word for Wordle. I used it every day for a few weeks, and then the one day I decided to use a different starting word, the answer was CRANE. Made me mad.

      2. On the Wordle game Bernie, I did some calculations awhile back and found that SALET is the best opening word, from a probability standpoint. I know others have their favorites, like CRANE, TRACE, etc.., but SALET beats them out. Of course, your mileage may vary. 🙂

        1. My stand-by word is SLATE and it really helps. Sometimes, though, I just try something odd that I have never used before. It’s often trash (i.e. NO matching letters) but even those are useful to “rule out” those letters as I progress. I also play quordle which is also fun (I sometimes just don’t have the time to spend on it!)

        2. I use STARE. I’d be curious to know if SALET (or STALE) is statistically better. Seems to me that using the R instead of the L gets you further.

        3. Good morning Mark.rates stare tears another wordle start anagram. I’ve started with route prob last 750 plays; I wonder if the statistical probability for that matches my solve rate

          1. Hi Bill.
Remember the Wheel of Fortune letters the contestants always pick? R S T L N, with the vowel E.
I think my analysis confirmed that those are the most common consonants, even in Wordle.

However, as you may know, Wordle uses a fixed word list of 2000+ words (not sure if that’s increased lately), so there’s not a direct correlation, but at least it’s some good data.

My mother always starts Wordle with ADIEU. She likes to hit the vowels straight away.

          2. I’m an ADIEU guy also. If I get two vowels with the opener I’ll make an a word with STR and the two vowels. If only one comes up I’ll go RO(A/I/U)ST unless the vowel is E, and then I’ll use STORE. If no then I use snort. Current Wordle streak is over 500.

        4. I like a challenge (and get bored easily), so I never went in for using the same opening word every time. But at the same time, it’s hard to pull new five letter words out of thin air, so I use Connections as a random word generator.
