The answers are:
BULWARKKVETCH
BULWARK — KVETCH
After seeing BULWARK, the leftover K and V led to KVETCH
Spent time with EVALUATE, WHEREVER, and REVERBERATE.
Worked with same, and whatever, bathwater , others. Even kvetch. Never saw bulwark
Same
I had half the OA but I didn’t see BULWARK. I had to settle for a three word solution with
LAW WATERBUCK KVETCH
OA
OA
OA relatively quickly. Had Kvetch first but couldn’t pair it initially. Found Bulwark a few minutes later and was done for the day. Was pretty irritated that WHALEWATCH is not an accepted LB word. Neither is WATERBUCKET.
I was stymied for a while and then I thought, “What about Yiddish?” Boom! Gefunden! 😊
OA with similar thinking here…Found WHATEVER, then saw BULWARK, then contemplated Yiddish words which get used frequently in LB?!
OA. I wonder if we’ll see another solution.
Bulwark – Kvetch
(Although I thought it was spelled Kevetch before looking it up)
OA after Buckwheat didn’t fit.
After yesterday’s unpaired MENSCH and SCMUCK I was onto the KVETCH! OA here. Yiddish takes the latke today 🙂
OA after struggling with WATERBUCK.
Disappointed I couldnt match WATERBUCK.
Gave up eventually. We don’t use as many Yiddish words in UK English.
The only other solution is:
bulwark / kvetcher*
Here is the full list including Scrabble words:
** Don’t look at the list if you haven’t finished solving the puzzle **
(The first number is a count and the second number is the number of letters used)
1 – 13 bulwark / kvetch
2 – 15 bulwark / kvetcher*
I got these “Scrabble words” when I switched to the OED word list:
2 – 15 chawbuck* / kartvel*
3 – 14 hawbuck* / kartvel*
I found this 3 worder…
BRAWL / LUCK / KVETCH
Also found
CLUB BREVET THWAK* (Indian plant and variant spelling of THWACK)
and
CLUBHAUL* LEVERET TAWK*
slang, see “NEW YORK TAWK: A Dictionary of New York Expressions.”
Settled for 3w: CLAW WHATEVER REBUKE. Wasn’t close to getting the OA today. Had hopes for REVERBERATE, was surprised WATERBATH and BATHWATER were okayed. My other 3w’s: BATHWATER REVEL (or RAVEL) LUCK.
Had a hard time letting go of VERTEBRATE
Settled for: WHATEVER – REBEL – LUCK
you can find out there.
Bleh. Spent a lot of time on WHATEVER, then figured I better check for Yiddish words because Ezersky LOVES Yiddish. Had KVETCH and figured it would be part of OA, but didn’t see the pair, spent a long time looking for an H connection. As soon I looked up the answer I went back to the puzzle, and OF COURSE, BULWARK was right there! 🤦♂️ Funny how obvious they become when you know what you’re looking for.
