        1. Same and I like it better than the oa! Actually I think everyone’s answers seem a bit better that the oa. I saw -uplift, -phile, -graph in quick succession and settled on autograph-highlife.

  1. Photographer Refugial

For any doubters, refugial definition: pertaining to an area of relatively unaltered climate that is inhabited by plants and animals during a period of continental climatic change (such as a glaciation) and remains as a center of relict forms from which a new dispersion and speciation may take place after climatic readjustment.
You just can’t make this stuff up 😃.

  2. Newbie here… is there a reason why NYT doesn’t do stats on letter boxed? Until now I didn’t realize every puzzle could be done in two.

    1. What an interesting question, Newbie! They do seem to want to keep that information on the down low, for some reason. But as you have discerned, there is always a two-word solution. Very, very occasionally there is a one-word solution, but I have noticed that even then, the official answer (OA) is always two words.

    2. Fun fact–
Last December, NYT published some ‘stats-of-the-year’ for their various games, and reported that 200,000 people has solved LB in two words in 2022.
I didn’t quite believe it, preferring to think that we are somewhat unique.
Let’s see if they post again this year . . .

  3. Some 3w’s: PHOTOGRAPH HELPFUL LIE. or PHOTOGRAPH HURTFUL LIE. HEAL LEAPFROG GUILT. Other promising words: Arugula, Afterlife, Hotelier, Graphite, Heartful, Photographer.

  4. Topographer – Refugial or Photographer – refugial. I’m impressed by the variety of answers. I found this one difficult.

    1. How dare they! Lock out LB’s Poet Laureate? Unconscionable! Glad they relented. You are garnering many mentions here.

  5. There are some obscure words in these…
    utopographer / relief
    photofit / tragule
    fruit / telephotographer
    grapefruit / telephote
    faultier / rotograph
    heteropolar / regifuge
    poitrel / laughful
    plagiograph / heartful
    phototopographer / refugial
    photoheliograph / helpful
    photoautotroph / highlife
    oligotroph / heartful
    heartful / logophile
    autophotograph / highlife
    refugia / altograph
    futile / ergograph
    uplifter / rotograph
    uplift / topographer
    ultrafilter / rotograph
    tearful / logophile
    parhelia / autograft
    artful / logophile
    hopeful / litreage
    heliograph / hurtful
    grapefruit / telephoto
    figura / autophile
    aphelia / autograft

  6. Only had time for a quick look today and just didn’t see two words right off. Found Photographer, Portraiture, Failure, but no pairs to do the job. Good work, all you you Artful Logophiles!

  7. ARTFUL LOGOPHILES
for my letter boxed friends, lovers of words

Start with a portrait of an egret’s figura,
Or a topographer’s failure; an Icelandic caesura.
Is a rotograph telling a artful lie
    As a negative of a graphite-toned sky?
Mark the heliograph signal of aphelial cold,
As parhelia mock what the photograph told.

As hopeful as a utopographer’s artful mind,
As heartful as a geographer’s refugial find,
As helpful as a poitrel on an equine breast,
As hurtful as a modern autophile’s excess,
As absent as an African tragule’s horn,
As futile as a penance in the afterlife, reborn,

The faultier litreage of the human mind:
A leapfrog in failure, yet semantically kind.
And in tearful relief, the heartful is heard:
Our logophile love of the material word.

portrait, egret, figura, topographer, failure, caesura, rotograph, artful, graphite, heliograph, aphelial, parhelia, photograph, hopeful, utopographer, heartful, geographer, refugial, helpful, poitrel, hurtful, autophile, tragule, futile, afterlife, falutier, litreage, leapfrog, tearful, relief, logophile
