  1. FLEXTIME — EARBUD

FLEXTIME was a total guess, but once accepted, EARBUD was right in the open.

Spent a lot of time with TURBIDIMETER, REFLEXIBLE, and RETEXTURE

    1. Hey Bill!
today was another day where i overlooked the easy words like “Flextime”!
First, like Steph, i stirred “Admixture” and other MIXs around and around to no result.
Then i latched onto REFLEXIBLE and found only two words i could enter with it:
      DURAMETER^ or
      MAMLUTDAR”

Of course LB rejects both, and i can’t find them in MW or OED.

But Mamlutdar shows up in Wiktionary, and per the Hobson-Johnson dictionary was “Chiefly used in Western India. Formerly it was the designation, under various native governments, of the chief civil officer of a district, and is now in the Bombay Presidency the title of a native civil officer in charge of a Talook …”
That was back in the time of Kipling.

And of course “Duramater” is supposed to be two words – Dura Mater –
meaning “tough mother ” in Latin – which i didn’t know until i looked it up in Wikipedia – but apparently the one word spelling “durameter” is beginning to creep into the medical literature:

      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4533437/

So after all that i quit looking for LB approved answers!

      1. it looks like i’m inconsistent with spelling, but the NIH article generally uses “durameter” while the Wikipedia article is “dura mater” …

        1. LB has no consistency as to what it will/will not accept. It’s like a slot machine, and we are all anxious too see “GENIUS!” 🙂

I do recall from my anatomy class, that it was definitely two words. As a matter of fact, our prof said that he would not count it as being correct if we did not include both words. We also had to learn the arachnoid and pia mater layers. I’ve used arachnoid several times in LB, so I guess it was worth it to learn 🙂

        1. That’s certainly where I first encountered Breadfruit!
I got the OA, Flextime Earbud, relatively quickly. It doesn’t have a lot going for it TI-wise. I suspect it’s essentially a one off, except for the Flexitime alternative.

  2. Wouldn’t have thought of Flextime, probably, settled for 3w 14/3 MIXABLE EFT TURD. Only found 4w’s before that one. I did think of -time and had -flex-, even Reflexible which was okayed.

  3. Here is the full list including Scrabble words:

** Don’t look at the list if you haven’t finished solving the puzzle **

(The first number is a count and the second number is the number of letters used)

    1 – 15 flexitime / earbud
    2 – 14 flextime / earbud

    3 – 15 flextimer* / ribaud*

    1. So…… admix ok,admixture ok,admixing ok, but admixer not. Would have gone with refutable. Oh well.saw flextime and earful but not earbud.long day, good luck tomo all.

  4. Really hate it when I spend a lot of time on a puzzle only to find out, that despite what I consider to be an extensive vocabulary, that I will never find the answer because I have no concept of it as a word. Really frustrating.

  5. Spelling Bee (18th Nov).. wouldn’t accept PINEAL and often come across words that don’t reflect the fact that every punter doing your puzzles does not come for the USA … please pass on
