FUMBLING – GORAY
Fumbling Goray, vottever dot means. The only definition I could find is unsavory, but it does give the answer some thematic charm, and at 13/2 it’s far more efficient than the official, so who am I to argue?
Nice though Bulgogi is, it’s a stretch. I’ll be interested to see if anyone gets there.
I also stumbled into fumbling goray.
No idea why ‘goray’ is accepted, or what it means,
except as the eponymous town of I. B. Singer’s novel “Satan in Goray.”
Urban dictionary indicates it’s a slightly less objectionable version of Honky, if I’m permitted to say that…
Nice Singer shout-out, Jill!
I am reminded of his story about a friend who believed in predestination, but who, when he saw a city bus bearing down him, “jumped out the way like a man who believes in free will”.Singer’s conclusion, much quoted: “And so, you see, you must believe in free will. You have no choice.”
I wish I could find a link to the video; his amazing comic timing made it quite hilarious!
ditto, that’s all I get after 1 hour of fumbling around with words. the official answer is no less vexing (there is no way i would think of Bulgogi in this context) – there seems to be no parameter on what loan words are accepted and what are not.
Fumbling and Goray here too. Goray is a word taken directly from Hindi. It means light skinned person(s). Despite the fact that I know Hindi well, I did not find Goray. My wife, who does not even understand Hindi, found it on a lark.
I also stumbled on GORAY, the first time I have ever heard that word.
I fumblingly fell across fumbling goray as well, after more likely words were rejected.
FORMULA – ABYING
Same. I had to look up the meaning of Abying.
Same for me and also looking up abying. Paying off a ticket, maybe.
Had to settle for a threebie: YOGI-INFORMAL-LUMBAGO (what you get with an uncertified teacher)
I got BULGOGI – INFIRMARY, but never would have expected it would be official, after noticing lots of seemingly promising leads like GLORYING, FUMBLING, BURYING, BAGFUL, ARMFUL, and being (pleasantly) surprised that BULGOGI was even accepted.
Let the theme be to always cook your BULGOGI properly without BUMBLING, make it your FRYING GOAL.
Good tip!
Especially if being served with LING or GOBY!
😄
Farm – myoglobulin
Excellent, Henry (or Michael)
I got MYOGLOBIN and GLOBULIN, but it never occurred to me that the two could be merged into MYOGLOBULIN (which would have saved me a quite lot of time)…
First FUMBLING – GORAY (the latter on a lark), but, when I checked, GORAY turned out not to be a PSW. So, moving on, I eventually found BULGOGI – INFIRMARY, which has nice TI if the restaurant’s hygiene is poor, but — again — upon checking, BULGOGI is not a PSW, either. So according to my own rules, I dipped twice today. (So far, FORMULA – ABYING seems to be the only two-word solution accepted both by the puzzle and by Scrabble. I didn’t find that one.)
Today’s birds: FULMAR, BULBUL, and ROBIN. The puzzle is just one letter shy of GYRFALCON, which would have been excellent, and not quite arranged for FLAMINGO. Perhaps another day.
It’s the opposite problem with the alternative Goary -accepted for Scrabble but not for LB.
Failed again. Even GOBLIN was a disappointment…
I know many LB fans here are Spelling Bee fans as well, so I wanted to note yesterday’s delightful Pangram, “OUTFOXED”, a word that has found its way into more than one recent official LB answer!
Yes, loved that! I was not going to be outfoxed yesterday, though I think I was today.
I googled PANGRAM and it said it means a word that uses every letter of the alphabet. What definition are you using?
sentence* not word.
Technically you’re right. I’m aware of no term that exactly describes what Spelling Bee refers to as a pangram (or a one-word answer in Letter-Boxed, for that matter). LEXICOGRAPHY, for one, is called a heterogram (including no duplicate letters), but I’m not sure, e.g., that there’s a way to identify SUBCATEGORIZE.
One way to do is to differentiate between a Set and a Multiset. A set, by definition, contains no duplicates. In a multiset, dupes are allowed.
A classic example of a multiset is the factoring of an integer:
12=2*2*3, which can be encapsulated with the multiset (2,2,3).
Just a thought.
Thanks for explanation.

Could not get this. Settled with FULMAR-ROBING and a missing ‘o’. LONGFORM and FARMBOY were disallowed, not that they got me anywhere. GUMBO, UROLOGY, BURIAL, LABOURING, INFORMAL, BURYING, FORUM, RUMBLING, BUMBLING, RAMBLING, GAMBOLING and GAMBLING, FORAY, IGNORING, BARMY. All left me in AGONY and FURY. Hey ho.
I meant a missing ‘y’…
My word list was:
BIGAMY BINGING BORING FOUR GAMBLING GLARING GOAFING MAILING MUMBLING RAINING RAMBLING RUMBLING
my near misses were RUMBLING GOAF and FOUR RAMBLING
also missing the ‘y’ :’)

Some known words:
BARYON, FOLIUM, FORMULA, GLUON, LOGNORMAL, OBLONG.
Some new words:
LING, GOBY, OBA, YOB, FUG, LUMA, GOR, GORM.
Underpants in our (British) household are known as ‘bum fugs’. But BUMFUG was, probably altogether reasonably, disallowed.
I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
Bumf, indeed! Inspector Clouseau would be pleased.
bulgogi – infirmary
This describes my son’s law school internship in South Korea.
Laughing!!!! My spouse loves bulgogi and had a very hard time adapting to the food when in South Korea. I am shocked this was the official answer.
I am embarrassed to admit how much time I spent on this puzzle. I did not think this was a reasonable answer so I also found formula-abying.
FORMULA – ABYING here as well. Rehashing FORMULA, I tried ABYING on a whim and it stuck. I knew nothing about BULGOGI -and am yet to be sold on it. GUMBO*, FAIRY, FORAYING, LUMBAGO, GAMBLING, ALBUM*, INFORMAL, FORMALIN, BULGY, BINGY, YOURN, BOURN, FILMY, LABOURING, FOAMY, ARMFUL, BUYING, BUOYING, BAGFUL, URNFUL, UROLOGY, UFOLOGY, ALUMNI, RAMBLING, [RUBYING], ABNORMAL, RUMBAING, FUMBLING, FORAY, RUMBLING, OFAY, ABORIGIN, FRAIL, FRINGY, BUMF, GLORY, LOAF, GAINFUL, FULGOUR, BAYOU, [(LIGNIFORM)]**, LINGUIFORM, FRUGAL, BARONY, BARONIAL, GLOBULIN, BARYON, GYRON, FABLING, BULGY, ALIFORM, BURYING, FORUM, INFRA-, FIBULAR, [FABULAR], GLOBULAR, MYOGLOBIN, LINGULAR, INFAMY, FURLING, MYOLOGY, BURNING, BIGAMY, FURLONG, YOGA, AGONY, BALMY, GULAR, [INFRUGAL], BILIARY were my non-starters today.
Same old same old with LBF: 7/12 letters guessed for a score of 7½. Trying
RZU AIX VEN JOQ next.
*BONGO FURY, along with GUMBO (Variations), is also in the mix – both playable on a Youtube or a turntable near you (as albums do).
**[( )] henceforth stands for ‘nonplayable in either Letter-Boxed or US Scrabble’.
Bulgogi. Terrible for my blood pressure but delicious. It’s the kimchi I am not sold on!
Really tough today. Ended up with FRYING GLOBULAR RAM.
My shortest 3 worder: FRAYING GLOB BUM. Got INFORMAL LUG GOBY right away, then spent a long time unable to find 2 word answer. FRAILING is a real word it wouldn’t allow!
Missed out today.
Tried to get labouring but nothing came.
Was sure one word was -ing
Okay, stumbled onto FUMBLING GORAY here as well. Never got yesterday’s so at least today’s win came better late than never.
My one letter shy’s today were: FUMBLING – GYRON (A); FRAYING – GLOBULAR (M). FUMBLING – GLORY (A); INFORMAL – LUMBAGO (Y).
Yesterday’s were: COLORANT – THICKET (W); WHACKO – ORIENT (L); RELIANT – WHACKIER (O); THROWN – NICKEL (A); THICKENER – RELOAN (W); TACKLER – RHINO (W); CIRCLET – THROWN (A); INTERLOCK – KHAKI (W).
Sadly missed TRIATHLON, but noted that for the future THL combos. And BULGOGI was probably never going to happen, but I’m glad there was at least another handful of options 🙂
