WICKETTRIATHLON
WICKET-TRIATHLON
Some sort of new-fangled British endeavour. I almost gave up today when they disallowed CRACKWHORE. I mean.
Some other good words: THICKENER, ANORAK, ATHLETE, TELETHON, CRACKER, CRACKLE, WHACKER, WHICKER, WORTHWHILE, THORACIC, ENTHRONE.
Thats some SERIOUS cricket.
Or maybe it’s a competition where you have to play cricket, then croquet, and finally be a bank teller.
Bravo WaltS!
A relief to get the official answer quickly for once…
A rather nice symmetrical KOWHAI – INTERLOCK / INTERLOCK – KOWHAI today, which was good consolation after CRACKWHORE – ENTAIL was rejected (though CRACKWHORE is not a PSW, so I really can’t complain).
Today’s birds: ROCK WREN, CROW, KEA, KAKA, WEKA, and, if double letters are allowed, LOON, ROLLER.
Oops. I just checked, and KOWHAI is not a PSW, either. So I guess I dipped today, unless I have time to go back and hunt for something other than the official. Which I probably don’t.

As JILL mentioned, don’t forget the KIWI!
It’s really Australasia day for birds and plants, especially NZ.
interlock – kowhai
Pleasantly surprised the latter was accepted.
NOWHAT – TRICKLE 13/2, putting an end to my streak of seven consecutive official answers. Fairly surprised NOWHAT was accepted (given that the LB word list doesn’t take kindly to archaic and obsolete entries). I persevered with my quest after finding TARWHINE – EARLOCK 15/2 (which struck me as superfluous in terms of efficiency), and am glad it proved WORTHWHILE. Other finds: CONTRA, TRACK, WHOLE, LIKE, CONTRAIL, WHICKER, WHACKIER, COLTAN, THICKER, THICKEN, AIRLOCK, KAONIC, THROW, THREW, WHORTLE, EARTH, and TANIWHA.
6/12 letters correctly guessed for a modest 7 at LBF. Let us go
FNR XDG UIS ETA for tomorrow.
Always worthwhile at least trying a possible word. I’m still shaking my head at Spelling Bee accepting PFFT.
Got this one too, yay 13/2! First got TRICKLE, lamented that WHATNOT wasn’t possible, but then just tried and found NOWHAT.
Same. Interlock/er, raincoat, thickener, rainwear, locket, worthwhile, (or not), earthlike, erewhile, crownlet.
Not accepted-Airworthier, enwreath, encase, encrown, crowne. And othe likes
REWOKE – ETHANOLIC
Terrible words. Tried WICKET a few times but never found TRIATHLON.
KOWHAI – INTERLOCK for me.
I do love WICKET – TRIATHLON.
Perhaps a KIWI set of lawn games played beneath the interlocking branches of the kowhai tree?
Stuck on interlock. I couldn’t find kowhai
I feel your pain. Ended up with INTERLOCKER WRATH HOW. Had high hopes for EARTHLIKE. Quite a few promising looking words today but tragically a failure for me.
Clownlike Earth
is UNACCEPTABLE!
However,
hairline earthlike ethic cow
and
cowrie ethanol licker
are just fine.
Interlock Kowhai – A hedge of kowhai will keep the tuis and korimako happy in spring!
Official but only after much struggle. Greatly disappointed by how few “like” words the puzzle liked. Catlike and Earthlike were the only ones I could find. I mean, what’s not to like about Clownlike, f’rinstance?
