Sides of this Letter Box are:

The answers are:
BENCHMARKSSIX
OA very quickly.
Likewise.
OA in 15 minutes.
I toiled with these first…
Mechanics/Mechanisms, Charisma, Schemas, Branchia, Benchmen, Brakemen, Chicken, Chairmen
OA for me as well. I see somebody came up with a variation on the OA but this was a really restrictive puzzle. Very little that could be done with the X. SIX, MAXI(S), and AXIS were all I could come up with. Add ARSENIC, ARCHAIC, CINEMA, and SICKEN to your list of words that couldn’t be paired.
OA — but I got hung up with axmen…
I fiddled with the same words before finding the OA. It wasn’t too long but definitely not an immediate answer
Same second try
BENCHMARKS — SIX
Couldn’t do anything with RAINCHECKS, MECHANISE, ANARCHISM, AIRBRAKES, CHARISMA, or ARMCHAIRS. Evidently, BRAKE CHECK is words, so no dice there.
OA, albeit not all that quickly. I think it’s safe to assume it’s a one-off; the placement of the X is too restrictive for anything else.
Same as Bernie.
Yeah, that’s why I made an exception. I look for a short word first that accommodate the ‘X’. When I put in MAXIS, I spotted BENCHMARKS. This time, looking for a short word first before a long word. A reversal of my usual strategy. Yay!!! OA!!!
Pretty much the same approach here, although started with AXIS, then threw the M in front. Had BENCHES earlier, so the brain finally kicked in after the full cup of coffee 🙂
BENCHMARKS / SIX took a while. One of those “fighting for options” solves for me.
OA same here, struggled for options.
Few X ample.
OA but even though I got Benchmarks quickly, a bit of a brain freeze for Six. Duh!
Same! OA took a couple of revisits throughout the day – finally saw the solve at 9:30p!
Benchmarks, six.
The total number of impressions left the 3 times I’ve walked into the gym, sat down at a piece of equipment, and then walked right back out…
😂😂😂 Say what you like, Mvua, I am certain you are a comedy writer at some iconic show
Thanks Steph! I needed some shared laughter today!
Thanks also to Bernie and DW for shout outs and sharing in the recent past.
Cheers to all the LB OGs!
OA
benchmarks – six
Very frustrating puzzle.
I could not find a 3 solve in my 30 minute allotment this morning, let alone a 2 solve. Forget about the OA. The letters B K H X don’t play well when the only vowels are A E I.
Yeah, the R, E, and X on the same side really narrowed the number of potential words.
Failed, but I count this one as a learning experience.
And needles to say Benchmarks Six was halfway to my DOZENTH HAYSTACK.

BENCHMARKS—SIX
BENCHMARKS—SIXAIN
Webster: sixain noun: a stanza of six lines : sextain
This is excellent, Mark! An alternate answer when I thought there was but one!
These letters made me feel like I was doing needlepoint. I always ignore those compound words! Even though I know they’re commonly used.
So nada.
BENCHMARKS SIX
after sleeping on it first.
I had BENCHES and SIXMARK which is not a word but didn’t think of Benchmarks. lol. Sent in BRAN NAMECHECKS SIX
I forgot to post this yesterday.
