It didn’t occur to me to insert the vowels: IAE. If I did, it would be: DIVOACEM. Then, I would have noticed VIDEOCAM.
Today was so heartbreaking. I was right with MIXTAPES. But, it was unfinished.
I should have known that the leftovers needed vowels.
Looks like all of y’all so far had something with “video…” and “…tapes” – results that resemble the OA.

LB doesn’t have a problem with “Toxemic”, but it won’t take “Vapidest”. Okay.
I couldn’t pull “Vapidest” out of the Cambridge or Webster’s dictionaries, but the latter does have references to “silly, sillier, silliest”, “inane, inaner, inanest”, “stupid, stupider, stupidest”. So, it would seem the superlatives for vapid should be included.
i found out that Webster’s does have a nice “Did you know?” tab for Vapid:

I first tried VIDEOCAMS because it used one more letter and S is usually easier to pair, but I could not get anything to work. When I backed off and joined on the M it became clear.

Yeah, I originally typed in the plural and when it said “Not a Word” I was more than a little pissed, but then noticed that it took the singular (??) Me thinks that the internal LB dictionary has been heavily hacked from the original OED.

so, the “xiv” caught my eye … i thought “LetterBoxed accepts Roman numerals?? – i didn’t know that!!”
So, i tried it out and sure enough the July 8 LB grid accepted XIV and XIX. And MIC and MIX which are also English language terms. But LB rejected MDCIX and other Roman numerals like CIV and MXI.
Oh, well! I was hoping for a more universal hack, but i guess, like the dictionaries, LB can only include the simpler or more common Roman numerals.

Started with Videocams Sextape, which LB rejected, and moved on to Videocam Mixtapes. It sounds like it could actually have been an Eighties thing. Not surprised it’s the OA. In fsct I suspect it’s another one-off. We’ll see.

I guess I think of Mixed Tapes, not Mixtape as a real word, and didn’t get Videocam although I did get Video/s. Had hopes for Video-Oxidise or with added s or d. Settled for three 16/3 solutions: MIXES SPACED DIVOT, or MIXED DIVOTS SPACE or SCAPE.

I had to checkout “spide”. So i did a websearch and Wiktionary defines Spide as
“A chav or smick.”
Ah, but of course! That explains it perfectly! I didn’t click on chav (or lookup smick) but just scrolled down to Dictionary .com which has
“Spide definition: a young working-class man who dresses in casual sports clothes.” The Collins Dictionary further specifies that as a
“a Northern Ireland informal … term for a young working-class man who dresses in casual sports clothes…”
Wiktionary, in contrast, has:
“A contraction of ‘spider men’, referring to individuals with cobweb-like tattoos. Also refers to people who ‘hang’ around street corners, loitering”.
So, i learned a new word! It’s been over forty years since i was in Belfast …

VIDEOCAMS – MIXTAPES. Took a long journey to find MIXTAPE(S) and felt too efficient to not be OA — until I realized LB also accepts VIDEOTAPE(S), which consumed half my time. Thought the answer was going to be VIDEOTAPES – SEXCAM, until I realized X and C are on the same side, but that led me to OA at least.
Been all those places. Discovered Sextape aint no word despite the song title.
Kinda think the answer should have been Sex, Lies, and Videotape.
