  1. Official here as well; quite surprising it is that -unless it’s the only one available. I may revisit it later on, but right now I need to go away and review my LBF.

  2. Official here. I think this is another puzzle with only one 2-word solution, bot assistance aside. But I’m hoping to be proved wrong by one of you mavens.

  3. ASHIKO (an African drum) was rejected.
If an African shirt is accepted, why not his instrument ?
I claim a moral victory for Ashiko Overjoyed.

      1. I’m with you – found ASHIKO – OVERJOYED. Didn’t know DASHIKI but I kept plugging in words and looking things up until I found it. I do like learning new words, and maybe I’ve been hiding in some DARKISH hole not to know this one but…. However, I remain humbled.

  4. Remember when we were really young and used to invent games and put rules in place as we went along? That’s the stage I find myself back at -and it does feel refreshing! In an attempt to make the forecast challenge more appealing, I’m introducing a couple of tweaks to make it a little fairer and, possibly, more interesting.
Aside from the spots on each side being interchangeable, the sides themselves can rotate clockwise: VDI RYA JHK OSE, for instance, is effectively no different to
JHK OSE VDI RYA, so it seems reasonable to choose the position that best fits the predicted one, irrespective of where you start (top, right, bottom, or left) -provided the order remains intact.
Moreover, scrabble points seem to be an objective variable. You can, e.g., quite safely predict an A or an E being in the mix -not the case with, say, a J or a Q, so that must amount to something. It’s, therefore, full scrabble points for each letter on the correct side, and half those for a letter misplaced -so there’s room to manipulate the result in a manner that scores the highest.
Finally, as a reverse bonus, an arbitrary 40 points will be awarded to any prediction that does NOT include a single letter of the ones making up the puzzle.
With these adjustments in effect, I scored 6 points yesterday, moving up to 14½ today.
As a side project, I’ll be working on finding the highest-scoring two-word LB solution possible; it need not be a 13/2 but, even if a letter is used more than one time, it will only be awarded scrabble points once. Anyone keen on engaging in that, you’re welcome to do so -bot-enhanced or otherwise…

    1. Official. I would like to participate but todays lb took it out of me. I think another rule should be that you only put forward a puzzle if you solved lb in a reasonable time. Otherwise no points.

      1. Noted, TK (I cracked that one real quick by my standards)! Participation in LBF is conditional, to begin with; I don’t even know if & when I myself will be submitting my next forecast. 🙂

    1. Why did I say two-word when I meant two-solution? Every once in a while I will be typing away and suddenly come out with the wrong fusebox.

  5. Fastest ever, as soon as I got Overjoyed, I got it, wasn’t sure Dashiki would be accepted but it was! Seems there are arbitrary boundaries for which words get okayed. My very first guess was 3 words: Joys Shaver Risked.

  6. Solved it in a reasonable amount of time. Quite honestly was expecting to see a simpler solution when I looked it up here. I didn’t expect DASHIKI to be in the LB lexicon, let alone part of the official solution.

  7. Looks like there’s not a lot of latitude for two-word solutions. I never got that far, however, since along the way I found JOKERS – SHAVED – DAISY–which tickled me so much I couldn’t continue. “Why’s the garden look so bare?” “What happened to my dog??”

  8. Ugh– I’m embarrassed (not overjoyed!) that I did not know the name of these beautiful West African shirts. A fail for me today.
