The answers are:
MOSQUITOORPHAN
Looks like a lot of potential for variation here. My first selection is
PHANTOMS SQUIRM 14/2
Variation PHANTOMS-SQUIRT found fast late at night which means I am free tomorrow morning
or maybe they SQUIRT
That’s what I settled on, too.
Same here…
Indeed. Thought ‘anthropomorph’ would have gotten me there, though
PHANTOMS – SQUIRT 14/2 (well, whatever…)
Official in an instant….
Sadly the Mosquitos round here are not Orphans …. they always bring their entire families with them…
I got stuck on Protohuman, leading to Quip Protohumans (primitive jokes a la the 2000-Year-Old Man) and Protohumans Squit (a new one on me – British slang for nonsense, which also ties in well with Mr. Brooks’s literal and figurative Immortal). Clearly many possibilities with this array; I’ll check back in to see what this hyper-inventive crew comes up with.
PHANTOMS – SQUIRT appeared so quickly, I thought it would surely be the official answer.
Same!
PROPINQUANT—THRUMS 17/2
PROPINQUANT—TINSMITH 19/2
I learned ‘propinquant’ today. 🙂
Also got PHANTOMS–SQUIRT/SQUIRM
QUIP – PROTOHUMANS for me.
Piquant couldn’t quite work (according to me at least)
And Anthropomorphic Couldn’t either.
Anyone else get annoyed with how many cool doubles ended up with one letter left over or we’re both possible except no linking letter?
Absolutely. Spent time on Piquant, Antropomorph and Morphos, but could take them no further.
Official.
For an hour or more I really wanted PIQUANT to work but couldn’t find a matching word. So I ended up spending fifteen minutes to get to the official answer.
