    1. Nome is accepted (Sota will probably know it, given its Greek origin), so Nome Excitability, which is better by length. But Monotone Excitability has nice contradictoriness.

      1. Not really. I was, of course, familiar with it as an all-round suffix, but not as a stand-alone term in English; every day is a school day, I suppose, even if it comes at the cost of having stuff we knew to be valid, cancelled (still fuming over EXONYM).

  1. I eventually found the landing strip for the official solution, after toying with various -MENTAL & -TABLE options, as well as LEXICON, TOXIC, MONEY, CYTON, MIXABLE, COMIX, ALIMONY, XENOBIOTIC, ABAXILE, etc. LAYTIME was rejected and so was EXONYM which, along with CITABLE would have formed an excellent 13/2.

  2. Official, pretty quickly. Also Nome Excitability. Had to look up Nome. Obscure to the max!
Looking forward to folks’ alternatives – some fine ones have already been reported.
Othe finds: Claymation, Balcony, Moxie, Moneybox, Moneymen, Yenta, Nomen, Axiomatic, Alimony, Conmen, Excitation, Exotic, Toxicity, Taxable, Noble, Nobility, Clement, Clemency, Elemental, Mentality, Amoeba, Comix, Comic, Comical, Bento, Mention, Emotion, Boxy.

  3. Official. For a longer riff, BICYCLE – EXCLAMATION. I really wanted to do something with CLAYMATION, OXYTOCIC, or CYCLAMEN, just because they are cool words.

    1. Yes, I saw BICYCLE at once, and figured it must be part of the solution, so was quickly able to pair it with EXCLAMATION. Of course, BYE is more efficient, but I had fun bouncing off of those lettered walls anyway.

A very quick one today, thankfully.

    1. This was mine today as well, and was happy to be put out of my misery after spending too much time trying to get TAXONOMY, TAXONOMICAL, and LAMENTABLE to work. Missed some much more obvious words, but I’ll take the victory. ✌️

  4. I hopped on BICYCLE-EXCLAMATION 🚴‍♀️❣️and happily hit enter, so I never even saw the more efficient official solution.

  5. EXLCAMATION-NOBILITY here as well. Funny how you jump to things without seeing the obvious. I started with MOBILITY, then NOBILITY, so didn’t even see BYE after I then found EXCLAMATION. Nevertheless, I’ll take the win for the day 🙂

  6. Official.
Did anyone get a non-x word first when trying to solve it?
Or is it natural to find that one first? Same like q
