  1. With VULNERABLY – YAUPONS 17/2 to fall back on, I tried SERVABLY, which would make for a reciprocal and thematically compelling solution (taking Veganuary to extremes), but both the adverb & adjective types were slashed (if accepted, the adjective would have been more apt as a second word).

    1. To my amazement I also found YAUPONS but i must confess out of desperation i had no idea it was a word, but thrilled to learn it

      1. Found it pairing with PERSONABLY but still left me with a V went back and got Martins answer. Sad because i started with VULNERABLY but never put two together

  2. POURABLE – ENVOYS was my first solution, but I really wanted to do something with OBSERVABLY, ultimately settling on YAUPON only after being frustrated that the puzzle did not accept the playable Scrabble word YUPON. Yupon my word!

    1. To further the scrabble rant I feel like this word array would be more solvable if the playable scrabble word servable was acceptable.

  3. ENVOYS – SUPERABLE

personal best time, and the first time I’ve ever reached a solution without going down any dead ends first. πŸ˜€

    1. If you switch it around to Superable Envoy, it saves a letter.
I also found the efficient official answer, plus other Supernova answers – Belays Supernova, Playboys Supernova.
Other finds that didn’t pan out for me: Purposely, Valuable(s), Nervously, Superbly, Surplus, Syrup(y), Superboy(s), Openly, Sylvan, Varus, Bravo(s), Boyar(s), Poblano(s), Poboy(s), Supernal.
Good on Bobby for pairing Superboys and Sylvan, which I missed!

      1. I’d be embarrassed to say how much time I invested trying to pair LAYPERSON(S). I almost said how much time I wasted but it’s actually such a joy when I can wrest some hours from the sandman, shut the world out and “winvest” time and energy in word nerd pursuits. I’m third generation at least to be hooked on this stuff…alas I will never have half the brain power of dear old Dad. He does the Saturday puzzle at breakneck speed.

    2. Same! But first, I tried too hard to get starting with VULNERABLY to work(I didn’t end up finding YAUPONS), then I realized VULNERABLE-ENVOYS was very close, so I tried starting with ENVOYS and found this!

  4. Official here as well after going down only one rabbit hole first with SUPERBLY. Quick solve today – on to Spelling Bee, Wordle, Worldle, Quordle and Octordle. And then work, of course πŸ™‚

    1. I have to go in reverse order: crossword, wordle, spelling bee and then letter boxed…and like you the finale is “work, of course”. I squeeze in quordle and octordle as time allows and occasionally brutalize myself with semantle. And your post is the first mention I’ve seen of worldle so I’m headed there now to have a go at it.

  5. A head-scratcher today….got ENVOY and worked backwards looking for E-endings. SUPERABLE-ENVOY as a solution but didn’t think NYT would take SUPERABLE, which makes me a poor diplomatic representative for those who overcome word hurdles. πŸ¦ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ•΅πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

  6. It didn’t allow NOVAS although it’s in the dictionary, so Novas-Superbly wasn’t accepted, and somehow I missed Supernova, but after a while I got POURABLE ENVOYS. Valuable/s, Nervously, Playable, Replayable, etc. seemed promising too.

    1. SLC, I feel your pain about NOVAS…it would have been sublime as solution with SUPERBLY! As a word, NOVAS is fine…just not permitted because of the A being in the same box as the S in this spread…APS-YVE-NBU-ROL

  7. Lots of rabbit holes for me today with PERSONABLY, PRESERVABLE, and I don’t know how I missed supernova since I got stuck forever with NOVA being left over after SUPERBLY (if only the ‘A’ and ‘S’ weren’t on the same side…). Ended up with SUPERABLE – ENVOY; I’ll take the extra letter over the official just to be done with it. 😝
