  1. If, as was the case with me, you stumbled across DRIVEWAY first, then your answer was bound to be JUNKED (not meant in a literary sense). If, on the other hand, you spotted JUNKYARD ahead of DRIVEWAY, I can see how you wouldn’t even consider refining it -to the extend that that constitutes a refinement. And I’d, indeed, be hard-pushed to envisage any alternate solutions to this one.

    1. Exactly SOTA! Spotted JUNKYARD first and from there leapt at DRIVEWAY and didn’t bother to look in the rearview mirror πŸ™‚ Considering there are days when I spend what seems like an inordinate amount of time working on the solution, I sometimes take whatever win I can get and move on with the day. For example, I’m off to string the lights…. Joy!

    1. I’m not clear as to which comments it is you’re referring to, exactly. If it is my exchange with SusanM at yesterday’s box, I suppose that, by ‘list’, she meant the words I often present as having contemplated before finding (or failing) a solution.

      1. Aside from that, I do -as confessed- have a somewhat random (& incrementally growing) list of 8, 9, or 10-letter words that might turn out to be useful along the way. One of my latest additions has, for instance, been OLDTIMER (featuring a rare succession of consonants). Additionally, I’m working on the Heterograms’ list that your son was kind enough to help you get a hold of… πŸ™‚

  2. Official here, quickly too, but only after failing to get solutions to many of the previous days’ puzzles. A win feels good.

  3. Official, but unlike some others here, it wasn’t so quick. “Don’t go too fast, but I go pretty far.” Apologies to Melanie.

  4. A bit late to the party today!
I think these are the only two-word answers with this restrictive array. Tomorrow perhaps we’ll get another word bacchanal. Lately the puzzle seems to lurch from one extreme to the other.
