  1. Found this comprehensive retrospective of Picassos right away.
I thought it might be unique, but alas — its official.

I’m wondering if our little hobby group has inspired the powers-that-be at the Times,
to go for thematic power rather than shorter solutions?

    1. That’s what I got, too, BRIAN T. I was fearful I had made a pig’s ear of it (in terms of efficiency) but, by the looks of it, it’s not that bad compared, at least, to the official solution (plus you were able to discover a likely little theme around it 😉 ).

      1. That said, I do have to acknowledge the thematic superiority of the official answer and, by extension, congratulate JILL, PG and -in advance- anyone else who comes up with it.

        1. Agreement here right down the line, Scota21. I do like Mark’s entry, Maximizations Subatomic. Definitely not my field (indeed,my ignorance of nuclear physics is near total), but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if subatomic maximization is actually a thing!

          1. MARK’s answer did leave its indelible mark on today’s puzzle (boom boom), for sure… I’m led to believe there’s two different MARKs, given the difference in avatars & the format in which they present their solutions (it’s up to them to clarify). I did find SUBATOMIC which, in turn, probably pointed towards MAXIMIZATION, by which stage SCUBA was incomparably more efficient. With hindsight, a good answer nonetheless. And glad you endured & enjoyed my Massive Attack 🙂

          2. This is in reply to Sota21 re Massive Attack – we’re too many layers in for me to reply direct.
Someone else mentioned Placebo at some point, so I’m checking them out too!
My current fixation is Nick Cave, have you encountered him? I particularly like the album version (title cut) of Dig Lazarus Dig. I was startled to find this touching piece about him in the Sunday NYTimes. An unexpectedly deep and thoughtful artist. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/09/12/magazine/nick-cave-interview.html

  2. Official. Tried many -ization words along the way, and there may be some more that work. Also played with axiomatic but couldn’t find a Z word to fit with it.

    1. I’ve been finding the solutions to most as of lately, but it takes me forever. I just started playing last month. I’m curious, how long does it take you on average to complete the puzzle (solving with 2 words)?

  3. Got as far as maximizist but of course it’s not a real word. Should’ve meditated on it a bit more to come up with maximization 🤣
