  1. The official answer came quickly, but then I realized that VICIOUS – SHAMEFUL is preferable on grounds of thematic consistency.

  2. Bernie Horowitz

Got Viscous but also Vicious, and went with the latter as the better thematic lead-in to Shameful. Vivacious is another! There’s a whiff of the Victorian about them both.

    1. I like your “thematic lead-in” phrase. It’s true that sometimes the two words have just a certain ring together.

I emailed the administrator of the game. I asked if the game was designed to handle a 12/1. I didn’t get a satisfactory response yet. I’m really curious on whether it can actually happen.

      1. Without overstudying exhaustingly, the game is configurated to be customizable. Recognizably, perhaps farsightedly, 12-letter solutions are possible.
Be warned that it can be exhaustingly unprofitable to spend time searching for these solutions, avoid such problematics. It is not questionable that for the hypnotizable, overstudying can make you malnourished, this is unforgivable. That said, finding solutions can be considerably enjoyable, even making you feel ambidextrous.

        1. I give up after two hours, unless I luck out sooner. Walt S. was my Dad’s name. He would think your comment is very funny. As intended, I hope.

          1. I wonder if 12/1 solutions have existed that were missed by everyone. Its surprising how many 12-letter words there are that have no repeating letters.

      2. Bernie Horowitz

Oh yes, it absolutely can happen, and did once in my long memory! Alas I can’t remember the specific solution. The puzzlemasters missed it but not the sharp-eyed laity. Actually now that I think of it, it may have been a single 13-letter word, but still obviously an improvement on whatever the official 13/2 answer was. So keep hope alive!
