FAITHHYDROCARBON

FIFTH – HYDROCARBON here. 29/33
When I solved this puzzle, I vaguely remembered HYDROCARBON being part of a previous OA. I looked it up, and discovered that HYDROCARBON – NIFTY had appeared as an OA long back, which works as an alternate answer for today’s puzzle!
Posted at exactly the same time! The scientist in me found HYDROCARBON first, then NIFTY unfolds naturally from there. Well done!!
Ah, as an ordinand, wish I’d found that one – it would have balanced my vocation and my science degree perfectly!
My science degree won out, as I saw HYDROCARBON immediately, and the second word just falls in your lap after that, and so, my solution was:
HYDROCARBON-NIFTY
Well done, Irim!
HYDROCARBON – NIFTY, too.
1/2.
30/33.
FAITH—, FIFTH—, FIRTH—, FITCH—
HYDROCARBON
HYDROCARBON
—NIFTY, —NOTIFY, —NITRIFY, —NITRIFACTION

Question: do you think hydrocarbon is what I call the ‘base’ word – i.e., it has to be part of the solution?
It’s looking like that. I’m checking some others now. ☕
An outlier:
BRACHIATION—NIDIFY
☕☕
Another HYDROCARBON NIFTY here.
