    1. As an American living in the UK, almost always with a U in my book, but in this case, no, because of the unnecessary repetition, so I reverted to US spelling. It stung, but for efficiency’s sake…

  1. OA. If you don’t mind me stealing more of your time, here’s one I created that you might enjoy:

    ALP – CNM – IOS – KET

        1. Whoops, I just realized you were working off of the letters someone suggested, not today’s NYT letters.

    1. I’m making up my own rules for this junk.
      FOXHOUNDS-*SAVOYARD
*SAVOYARD good in Wiktionary, Scrabble UK (SOWPODS)

  2. Radioactive Flower

Yesterday I had SWATCH for a fleeting moment. I don’t know why I didn’t pursue it any further. Today I knew that SAVORY must be part of the OA because it is too good a word for V and Y. However I can’t just give DXHF a proper word. I tried and tried. I can just only come up with FOXHANDS, FOXYHANDS, FAXHANDS. I just didn’t see HOUND. Two days in a row with no answer (only halves of the OA).

    1. I feel your pain. It’s the bizarre thing about Letter Boxed. I, too, spotted SAVORY but couldn’t see what to do with it — other than the obvious fact that that since it begins with an S the first word would almost certainly end with one. But I’d seen HOUNDS and didn’t know what to do with it, either. Then I spotted FOX. Wasn’t sure FOXHOUND was one word but it’s painless to try it. Once FOXHOUNDS was accepted the letters in SAVORY stood out. BTW: don’t know about you, but my heart sinks every time the puzzle includes an F. No idea why F words are so tough for me, but they are. I really, really dislike ’em!

    2. Funny. My process was the same with FOX. I was brainstorming compound words to go with FOX and thought of FOXHUNT to try. Stringing it together, when I got to the U, it dawned on me there was no T, but seeing FOXHU and visualizing a fox hunt made me think of FOXHOUND, what one takes on a fox hunt, so I backed up to H and gave that a shot. Then FOXHOUNDS. And Bob’s your uncle. So, basically a very similar process, just the train of thought I happened to get on was HUNT instead of the HAND. Kinda luck, really.

  3. FOXHOUNDS — SAVORY

Spent lots of time with HADROSAURUS, SARDONYX, RUNAROUNDS, HYDROXY, SAXONY, and ANHYDROUS, but the leftovers never left any possibles words (to me anyway), so I started with combinations of the leftovers and that’s when I got FOXHOUND/FOXHOUNDS and SAVORY was right there (down, up, down, up, down with each succeeding letter).

  4. OA had to get past savory, hydroxy and anhydrous. Saw hound. Immediately knew foxhound was going to be key and there was savory/savory.

  5. Foxhounds-savory. Found oxfords first and quickly gave up on it, then found foxhounds on my 2nd attempt, then it was easy.
