OA.
Yep… put some salt in the stream, to make sure the ice doesn’t get too slick when the freeze comes.
OA.
OA. Took a few minutes. Was obvious it was going to be an -IZING ending. Just a matter of finding the root.
OA, fairly quickly
Same. I think that makes 5 out of the last 6 where I land on the OA. That is fairly odd for me. Unless the solutions are one-offs.
WINTERIZING / GULCH
Yup!
OA quick as a wink.
OA
WINTERIZING — GULCH
Found CRETINIZING and GENTILIZING* before seeing WINTER and WINTERIZING. GULCH was right there.
Yes, OA.
Was glad to find it so I wouldn’t have to use cretinizing – which felt a bit creepy.
cannot believe dealing with subzero temperatures took so long to see OA.
couldn’t let go of CHINTZIER GLITZIER RITZIER
Those are all great Z words!
Same!
Same here! First day this week we’ve been out of subzero temps this week, but I couldn’t find any ~IZING words and got hung up on GLITZIER instead. Smiled when I finally spotted WINTERIZE and GULCH was obvious in the leftovers. 4th OA in a row!
WINTERIZING – GULCH
Filling in the gaps.
OA,
Toyed around with EUNUCHIZING briefly, which is in Merriam-Webster and OED but not in LB
Takes us back to the excellent Frostbite Eunuch solution from last week or the week before!
OA again today, suspect it’s a one-off. Winterizing Gulch is on the agenda at the Snowmakers’ Summit.
OA First two words, right off the bat.
I do struggle with -izing words (not from US)…but I thought I’d share a three because I was interested to see Zilch is accepted and made this sweet phrase about an up and coming sport: zilch hunting grew
OA right off the bat. Fun week so far.
Isn’t the Zilch an endangered species?
Love it!
😊
Glad I stopped at CHEWING-GLITZIER (no U). WINTERIZE is not a real word, in my view, and I have never heard of GULCH. Sounds like something out of Dr Seuss. 🤔
Aha. Turns out both words are North American, according to the dictionary, (and a gulch is a gully). Which is why this Brit failed!
OA, in the Deep South, where we speak sort of old English, we use the word gully also, and don’t do much winterizing
I sympathise! (Sympathize?) Doggone those doggone zees.
Quick OA. Throwing cotton candy in a slot canyon.
Wicked Fast (for all you New Englanders) – and easy for RV owners who go through the ritual of anti-freeze each year 🙂
OA And very quickly today!
winterizing – gulch
GLUNCH – HEWER – RITZ (15)
OA in 2-3 minutes
WINCE ETHERIZING GLUE
Really like Gutwrenching but didnt scan.
Winterizing/ Glunch
Who’da thunk
WINTERIZING/GULCH – Took me a while!
OA
BTW, there were a bunch of -ing words that it’d have taken -ingly for if there’d been
a y and that it should’ve alternatively taken -inglier for but didn’t. Just something I noticed.
I’m ashamed to say I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the word “winterizing” before.
The best I could do was in 3.
WITCHING GLITZIER RECUE
OA but it was a withering, wrenching twitcher that made me cringe, I thought I had zilch
OA.
i didn’t start until almost time for the new LB puzzle.
