    1. The same for me, after trying lots of …ING endings and getting nowhere, I got GIMCRACKERY and realised I could use BACKPACKING 🙂

          1. I too had Eyepiece Embarking (can’t set sail until I find my spyglass), but I went with the OA Payback Kingmaker (Elon’s big plan). .

  1. EYEPIECE — EMBARKING

I spent a lot of time trying to get REMAKING, PAPERBACK, BAREBACKING, and REMEMBERING to work, but couldn’t pair them.

      1. Well done! I got stuck on PACE-EMBARKING with Y still left over so it’s really satisfying to see someone else get a solution, with a nice theme as well

  2. Hey Oscar! I feel we are time traveling 😀 on this site.

PAYBACK-KINGMAKER also long, but politically timely?

Interested to see if more efficient, non-compound-word solutions arise today.

    1. Mine was:
      PACEMAKING GREYBACK

Actually, i first tried GYBER as the 2nd word, but LB wouldn’t take it.
Then GRAYBACK, but LB said no to it.
So that left GREYBACK, and LB accepted it.
I didn’t think about GARBAGY … i would have a hard time deciding if the correct spelling is with or sans the “E”.

PS – MW lists “Grayback”, but not “Greyback”.
OED lists them jointly under “Greyback”.

      1. Eyepiece embarking. Wanted to make repackaging work also tried both payback and kingmaker w/o making the connection, went back to my second try and this time saw eyepiece

        1. Me too. So many times I think I will be the only one with an answer like PACEMAKING – GREYBACK, and others have found it also!

  3. EYEPIECE—EMBARKING
    Going for new glasses.

    BACKPACKING—GIMCRACKERY
    “Travelling with trinkets” (from ChatGBT).

    Longest unaccepted word found: MIMINYPIMINY°

    °OED:
miminy-piminy, adj. & n. Ridiculously delicate or affected; finicky, over-refined.
gimcrack, n. & adj. Now usually applied to a showy, unsubstantial thing; esp. to a useless ornament, a trumpery article, a knick-knack.

    1. Hey Mark – thanks 🙏 for checking those words for me a couple of days ago …
i didn’t do yesterday’s LB … was driving all day Monday and then yesterday had a dentist appointment and then a meeting until after 9pm last night … i was Tired 🥱!

  4. PAYBACK-KINGMAKER

Really wanted to use CAPYBARA in my solution but found the OA instead!

    Depending on who wins…
    a) Payback for the kingmakers OR b) payback as promised by he who would be made king

ps- please vote even if you have to stand in line. You can play letterboxed while waiting.

  5. Struck out after failing to match BACKPACKING. 🫤

Hopefully the OA proves false next Tuesday. (unless the PAYBACK is the would-be king losing in a landslide…)
