The leading ‘post’ and ending ‘s’ are optional. In any event I had to look up both words. Cowbane is a type of hemlock. I think I knew that at some point but had forgotten.
I also found BINOCS and BIONICS, both accepted, and both seemingly pairable with STEPWAY. But it was a no go on ‘stepway’, and OED has it in a hyphenated form.

This is as good a place as any to report my solutions, which in no way resemble the OA, but are common enough here: Cowpea Abstinency (I never touch the stuff myself), and Synaptic / Synoptic / Cowbane(s) in various configurations (being a general summary of bovine neurotoxins).
It suddenly occurs to me I never looked at yesterday’s results. Lost track of time, I guess.
