I’m starting to get a handle on pulling two-word names. Today my Smith program pulled “hot dog” and “giant toad”. Kudos to DW who does it regularly with his birds, as it’s not easy to do.
I agree with all commenters, on the highly technical word. I certainly did not know it either. I just so happened to have it on my list, and solved programmatically.
Remember the days when there were literally hundreds of solutions? And themes aplenty? That truly was a lot of fun. All I can think of is that they felt their puzzle was too easy and decided to make it harder.
I make go back to looking at the Trips and Quads. Those always seemed abundant to me, but I haven’t looked lately.
But I realize that I vacillate between “oh, it’s too easy” and “oh, it’s too hard”. The grass is always greener on the other side. 🙂
KETOGENIC – CHAOTIC – CHAFED
I have never encountered the word KETOGENIC in my life. I gather “Keto Diet” is short for “Ketogenic Diet,” but I have only ever heard the former. So today is a fail. But seriously? The puzzle maker wants to torture players with an obscure technical word and such a constraining array? This used to be fun. I confess I am starting to lose interest.
🐦 NENE, ANI, DODO, KAKA, KITE, TIT 🐦🐦 COOT, CHICKADEE. No CHICKEN, as that is an informal generic term for domestic fowl, not the official name of any bird (although there are two species of PRAIRIE-CHICKEN).
I’m with you!
This puzzle isn’t real 😉
Another newcomer to Ketogenic. I couldn’t find a partner for INFANTICIDE so settled for the threebie FAINTED-DOCKAGE-ETCH.
KETOGENIC???!? FFS… 🙄
Gave up on two-word solution. My three’s:
GINKGO-ODONTOGENIC-CHIEFTAIN
or
CHIEFTAIN-NOCKED-DOG.
Congrats. I got nowhere with CHIEFTAIN. 👍
Also settled for threebies: CHICKENED-DOTAGE-EFT and GOTCHA-AFGHANI-INKED. (Isn’t AFGHAN(I) proper name?). And gotta admit, I use KETOGENIC often at work 😖
👍 on ketogenic. I’ve learned that Afghani is also a currency. I use this sheet from Merriam Webster as my ref:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/money#table
Got it, Mark. So EURO MARK FRANC should also be accepted when they arise….
I also would never guess KETOGENIC, got some 4 worders, including CHAFED, my 3w one was CHINKED DEFT TOGA
On days like today I’m happy to find three words that don’t use any of the same letters (except the required starter). I found CHINKED-DAFT-TOG for 14/3. Ketogenic is not the problem. Like so many other words, I either see it or I don’t. Selective word recognition!
Got the exact same 3 as you. I definitely could have, and arguably should have, got KETOGENIC. I don’t have the excuse of not knowing that word. KETOGENISIS is fascinating to me.
Honestly, I was happy to find three simple words that, in a row, made me smile. They don’t even link. FAT CHICKEN DOG. That is all.
That is a very funny image haha.
😃
Missed today for obvious reasons.
I m glad i gave up on it sooner rather than layer.
enchanted was one i tried to make work
Naked Dog Got Tonic Chafe.
As far as I knew, that coulda been the definition of ketogenic.
Headline: FANATIC CHOKED DOG. Were they ketogenic? World shocked and chafed
ketogenic – chafed
I’m aware of a lot of fad diets and prefer paleo, so this was a good pair imo.
Dieter here too. Got official.
No Chickenfat? Settled for Fetch Hag Godkin. And that’s an order.
I was stumped today. But found CHIEFTAIN and FANTOD. So there. Better luck mañana.
Days like this not only make me tear my hair out when I see the solution, they also make me not want to spend more than 10 minutes on ANY solution. Too many times I’ve noodled on one of these puzzles for 30+ minutes only to realize after looking it up that I had a 0% chance of finding the solution because one of the words is so obscure. It’s a bummer that the puzzle master is seemingly more preoccupied with dazzling NYT readers with his vocabulary than making fun puzzles. 🙄
Ironically I had AFGHANI but IDEOKINETIC AND KETOGENIC were never going to happen. I did have multiple one-shy’s and plenty of three word solutions, but spent WAY too much time trying to solve this one…. Guess I’ll have to set time limits and stick to them if the solutions continue to be this esoteric!
