  1. Bernie Horowitz

Found the OA after a brief dalliance with Caribou, Phrase, Whisper. so much TI it’s an actual diagnosis: atychiphobia.

    1. Atychiphobia is a new word for me; thanks, Bernie!

🐦 CARACARA, CAPE CROW, SCAUP, SORA, IBIS, CARIB 🐦🐦 HARRIER, HOUSE SPARROW

  2. PHOBIAS – SCREWUP
First time I’ve solved with my first two words, so was pretty pleased with myself. But then saw that I could have done it more efficiently just by flipping them, grrr!

      1. Me too. In my elation at having arrived at a solution I was blind to the otherwise obvious. But glad to get on with my Sunday.

  3. simple yet i missed it. ended up with WAREHOUSES-SUBSPECIES . i wish SHOWERCAP was accepted as it would result in such beautiful answer

  4. 5.7.23 : BAE—CHU—WSR—OIP
    SCREWUP⇄PHOBIA(S)
    EUPHORBIAS⇄SHOWCASE
    Characters: PHARAOH, the SCARECROW, SUPERHEROES
    Greek: PHI φ Φ, RHO ρ Ρ, PSI ψ Ψ
    Elements: PHOSPHORUS ₁₅P

      1. It looks like all the chemical elements will be acceptable, KP; barring double letters of course.

I’ve had good luck with the Greek alphabet too, but only partial success with Hebrew. The Planets are a no-go, unless there’s an alternate common meaning (earth, mercury). Names of foreign currencies, and their sub units, appear to be fair game so far as well.

        1. RE planets: If I recall correctly, LB did accept VENUS, but not JUPITER. That’s when I threw in the towel.

  5. HOWES – SUPRAPUBIC 15/2 & EUPHORBIAS – SCREW 15/2 -making absolutely sure that at least one of them wouldn’t be the official solution, which (you don’t need me to tell you) trumps both in terms of efficiency & theme; in fact, it’s the definition of TI, as it requires no explaining at all (& who can claim to never have experienced the fear of messing up?). Bernie Horowitz even came up with that marvelous coined term that I, too, was unaware of, even though it’s entirely Greek-rooted.
Other finds: WAREHOUSE(S), BICEP(S), PUBIC, [SAPROBIC], and CASHEW.
LBF score: 4 (5/12 letters correctly guessed). Going with
    UAT SJH EOR FIB
    next.

  6. Lots of fun today and many tunnels to go down (HOUSEWARES, WAREHOUSES, BICEPS, PHOSPHOROUS, SURPRISE, SUBPAR etc…. Happy to find the OA at last. Thanks for the new words Bernie, Sota and Mark – I bow to your prowess!

    1. Thank you Susan. I’m on a mission of sorts to find out which names LB will accept. While it appears to be generally true that proper names are excluded, I am finding exceptions. The other day it accepted Rameses. Unless there’s a more common usage of this word, I’m not sure of the reason yet. If anyone knows, please share the info. 🙂

  7. OA immediately. Screwup, then phobia. The picture of perfection. Not one mistake made in the process.

    1. Should be a 1-solve! What would you call the fear of warehouses? Warehousephobia or Warehouseaphobia, right? Both work!
