    1. Likewise! 😜

      Today’s birds: BARAU’S PETREL, APALIS, RAIL, SMEW, EMU, TEAL BULBUL, PIPIPI, PIPIT, TIT, and IBIS in the singles; MURRE and WILLET in the doubles.

    2. Got the same answer but must raise a technicality. As far as I know, Stormy ain’t no strumpet. Some might say your comment isn’t fair to Stormy, others that it isn’t fair to strumpets.

  1. Bernie Horowitz

    I spotted Bewails Strumpet, which as noted is ripe with Current Events TI, but ultimately I went with Bewails Stumper as more personal to the LB crowd, with our frequent complaints that it’s Too Hard – or, conversely and perversely, that it’s Too Easy, thereby bewailing both the presence and absence of stumpers, depending.

  2. WARMUPS – SUBTILE 14/2 here, trumped (fair to admit) by the official answer in terms of efficiency and thematic integrity (quite the spectacular balancing act that would be). ARMWRESTLE, SWARM, ARMPITS, PARTIBLE, BLEWIT, ALBITE, RIBLET were some other finds, and I’m surprised TRUMP-related solutions haven’t already started pouring in thick and fast. Thought I might initiate proceedings with
    WEST – TRUMP – PITIABLE,
    fully aware that others can do way better.
    LBF score: a pitiable 4½ (5/12 letters guessed correctly). Hope things will look up with
    FNR XDG UIS ETA.

  3. Wastrels Subprime for me too
    Not efficient. Feeling lazy.
    There should be many simple solutions, better than the official.

  4. 4.17.23
    RSB—UIE—LWP—TMA

    Pairs:
    =========================
    TUMBLER—RIPSAW (minimal 13/2)
    SWIMWEAR—RUPTURABLE (sounds embarrassing 😮)
    =========================

    Words with Unicode connections:
    =========================
    ARES ♂ (Greek equivalent of Roman Mars)
    LIRA ₺
    LIRA ₤
    PSI Ψ,ψ
    RUBLE ₽
    UMLAUT ◌̈ (U+0308 Combining Diaeresis)

    Animal Kingdom:
    =========================
    APE, ASP, BEAR, BULBUL, EMU, EWE, IBIS, IMPALA, LEMUR, LUPUS, MITE, MULE, PIPIT, RAIL, REPTILE, SEAL, TEAL, TERMITE, TIT, TURTLE, WALRUS, WAPITI, WASP, WEASEL.

  5. I was working on WEASEL-LIPBALM today. Some great words there: TULIPS, PUSTULE, MISERABLE, MEASURABLE, WEARABLE. Also BIBIMBAP and WASABI on the foreign food front.

  6. Dissapointed I couldn’t find a partner for SPIRITUALISM nor SUBPRIME nor another good word I can’t remember now hehe. Ended up with WARPS SUBLIMEST for a 14/2.

  7. UMPIRES–STEWABLE (the latter not accepted by LB but a PSW), then STEWBUMS–SPIRAL. Found STEWBUMS when looking for something to pair with SEMIPERMEABLE, but when I found STEWBUMS, it turned out that SPIRAL was a more elegant pairing. And, it avoids the low-hanging fruit of the -ABLE suffix. There’s probably a shorter word to pair with SEMIPERMEABLE, though, somewhere. Regrettably, I must to work . . .

  8. Didn’t know the word RIPSAW. Was disappointed TIMESWAP not allowed. (BLURT TIMESWAP was my only 2 word guess; tons of 3 and 4 word solutions too).

  9. I couldn’t make TUMBLERS work, so switched the S to the front and got STUMBLER – RIPSAW, using an unnecessary letter over the official.
