    1. HALVES – SKEWERING here as well. WREAKING, ELVISH, REAWAKING, SHAVING, WARLIKE, HALVING, SKEWER, WHISKER, LAVING got me there and WRANGLES, KNAVISH, WANGLER, WINKER, SNARKING, WAVELIKE, HANKERING, HARKING were part of a futile search for a more efficient (or thematically appealing) solution (also not ruling out the likelihood
of a one-worder in the process).
LBF score: 3½ (5/12 letters guessed). The Fishcake-inspired set did significantly better, bagging a 10 (got 7 letters right).

(in which, of the two words, one looks critical to any possible solution) is what I’m going with for tomorrow.

    1. Mondays… Am I right?
      NO!
This is me in a few hours when I check my phone and realize all the corny jokes I made as I was falling asleep.

  1. HALVES-SKEWERING
Pretty sure I’ve heard this as part of some rugby (or other sporting) commentary. “Those scrum halves! Skewering their opponents…”

    1. That’s describing how they eat, right?

Otherwise, not a job title I’d want. It would be hard to get them through all those little holes.

  2. Official
Though I thought SHARKS SWIVELING was much more ominous. Unless you work in tech right now and your boss has a squeaky chair.

  3. Bernie Horowitz

Indeed, many possibilities today! I went with Whisks Slavering, but Jill’s Alewives Shrieking is my fave. A powerful image! Count on the poet for that. Plus it goes on the Fish List, along with Hattie’s wonderful Whalesharks, not to mention plain old Sharks.

  4. I expect a record number of solutions today. Let’s count at end of day.
    Livewires Shaking.
    Is that the best thematically?

  5. other one spoon

    REVIEWALS – SHAKING
Happy to end a four-day streak of failures, even with a somewhat sketchy word like “reviewals” 🙂

  6. Official. Really wanted NARWHALS to work, but alas, I cannot add to the ocean living mammals list today. Nor do I have any one-shy’s as the solve was quick – yay! I do love the shrieking alewives – go Jill!

  7. Official again today. I won’t be able to get the image of shrieking alewives out of my mind, though.

Good birds today! ASH’S LARK, SAKALAKA WEAVER, SHRIKE, WEKA, ANI, KEA, and, of course, the entire class AVES!

  8. Also got WHISKER,REVEALING.

Because WHISKER and SHAVING/SHAVER were so obvious, I wanted to make some kind of sequence with them. The best I got was: WHISKER,REGREW,WAS,SHAVING,GRAVEL
